RRTC upcoming trauma center conferences

In October 2010, we successfully completed the first trauma center conference, in collaboration with the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The first conference was held at MUSC and included 25 attendees. Since the first conference, the Shepherd training team has been going over conference feedback and working to refine and perfect the training for the next three conferences that will be held in the next year.

At each upcoming conference, our collaborators have the plan to provide a checklist for each site. This would be provided in hard copy, and could be either modified and printed off to use in their clinics, or, if they have an electronic data collection/documentation tool, they could use this to modify it so that they are tracking the best parameters for reducing/preventing key secondary complications, and finally, they can use it to build their data collection/documentation tool if they are so inclined. They will have a useful tool that should help reduce the secondary complications.

Sheperd is also very interested in tracking outcomes to determine if this effort/the mechanisms being used to translate the evidence related to the prevention of secondary complications is actually being utilized, and if it makes a difference. Dr Debbie Backus, Shepherd training director, will be following up with the key contact people from each site over the next few weeks, attempting to identify outcomes they would like to track in this endeavor.
