October 2010 marked the start of third year of the DRRP grant and we have been busy with the DRRP grant activities in the new year. We recently had a phone conference with Dr Sligh-Conway and Dr Staten at South Carolina State University (SCSU) to discuss ongoing activities. We discussed the summer graduate student that we will host in summer 2011. The summer program will be structured similar to the past years, with a ten week internship period that will entail mentoring from Dr Krause and Dr Saunders at MUSC and Dr Conway and Dr Staten at SCSU. This summer, the student will focus more on literature reviews in their paper writing stages.
Dr Conway is going to be travelling to two conferences in the next few months with our summer student from 2010. They will be going to the North Carolina Counseling Association (NCCA) Conference in Concord, NC in February where they will present "Life Care Planning for Persons with Disabilities with focus on Individuals with Spinal Cord Injuries/Traumatic Brain Injuries." Dr Conway also just submitted an abstract to the Rehabilitation of Racial & Ethnic Minorities with Behavioral Addictions (REMBA) conference which will take place in Greensboro, North Carolina in April.
Dr Conway and Dr Staten are planning to visit MUSC in early May to finalize plans for the summer graduate student and go over existing data from the DRRP studies. We are going to continue regular meetings over the next few months with these collaborators in order to continue to share new data findings.
